FX HistoryFuture Generation-X. The mere mention of this name sends a chill down the spine of all the fans who remember the faction that dominated the Tremains Wrestling Federation in it's early days. The formation of this faction came as a total shock to many. For many weeks, The Red Dragon, Mr. BIG & "Chick Job-Smith", got along well, forming part of the original Z-Pack. The three rode together, and pretty much lived together as a cohesive unit. That was until the TWF's very first Pay-Per-View, No Way Out 2000 on March 19th 2000. Mr. BIG had already kept hold of the TWF World Heavyweight Championship he won weeks earlier in a highly controversial match with Brownie that was scheduled to be a Triple Threat Match and ended up being a singles match. However, unknown to The Red Dragon, "Chick Job-Smith" offered a challenge for the Light Heavyweight Championship, the second most prestigious TWF belt at the time. Mr. BIG would be a referee for what could best be described as a sumo match. Sumo Samurai was on commentary to add to the occasion. But, then it happened. NJS charged at The Red Dragon, effectively punting him out of the ring. Sumo Samurai alerted the referee, Mr. BIG. And the match was over. The crowd went insane! The Red Dragon and NJS threw some fists at each other, but were separated by Mr. BIG and Sumo. Mr. BIG and NJS then stood on the ramp with huge smiles on their faces. In many polls conducted since, it is often mentioned as one of the most shocking moments in TWF history. The following night on TWF Raw from the Bridgend Rec, Mr. BIG and NJS came out to huge boos and addressed the crowd, wearing Z-Pack t-shirts. They simply tugged them off and revealed 'FX' ones, saying that The Red Dragon was a "phoney" and didn't deserve the status he got in the TWF. Mr. BIG then introduced his new "team mates" - "The Rock" Gareth Fox… and most shocking of them all, "Ice Man" AJ Jeffers. Before leaving then uttered the words that made him a superstar: "Mr. B, Mr. I, Mr. G, That's Mr. B-I-G". FX succeeded in their mission before it even began, as immediately after they left, The Demon appeared, claiming to have taken the Red Dragon's form. The Demon was challenged to a 2 Falls Match at Easter HeAT against Mr. BIG, with the first fall for control of GCourt Green, which the Z-Pack "ran", with the second fall to be for the TWF World Heavyweight Championship. The Demon got in intensive training so he could reach the heavyweight barrier, whilst Mr. BIG simply stood back, and defended his belt every night, and when he finished, strolled back to the "FX Xpress", where he ran operations. NJS, Fox & Jeffers continued to wrestle as well, winning belts that now are quite prestigious (European, Intercontinental), but treated like they almost didn't exist at the time. FX didn't quite survive in it's original form for longer than a few months, for Fox then turned on Mr. BIG on an episode of TWF Raw at the TJS Centre, claiming that Mr. BIG was a "pussy". The crowd loved it, but later in the evening, Mr. BIG introduced the world to what he is still being renowned for… getting the last laugh. In a #1 Contenders Qualifying Battle Royal, where the last two men in the ring would face off at Easter HeAT for the right to face Mr. BIG, Biggie distracted Fox, who was promptly eliminated. The two brawled backstage, but Fox eventually got his title shot on the Nitro prior to Easter HeAT, and in a great match, Mr. BIG kept hold of the championship. Easter HeAT rolled around and Mr. BIG won both falls in a classic meeting with The Demon, FX became the very first Tag Team Champions, "Road Dogg" Jesse Rogers double crossed her brothers and The Rock and joined the faction and was given the second tag team belt won by Jeffers & NJS earlier in the evening. FX was on a roll. The Rock eventually re-joined after re-building some bridges with Biggie a few months later. However, as FX continued to be on a roll, the reaction given to them also changed. The crowds that used to boo them were slowly beginning to cheer them. NJS was slowly morphing into the persona we now know him as. Mr. BIG was no longer the anti-social, anti-everything champion, he was a man who stood for respect. The biggest sign of this was at Summer Break 2000, held in Las Vegas, and was singled out as being the showcase event of then Tremains Wrestling Federation. Mr. BIG faced off against his latest enemy, Real Deal Murphy, a cocky young son-of-a-gun who had the backing of the masses and Owen Carl, who was still referred to by many as Sumo Samurai. However, as Real Deal made his entrance down to the ring, the crowd who used to stand up and cheer him began to boo him loudly and in sync! Real Deal was angry about this and tried sucking up on the microphone prior to the match, but that made the booing worse! No-one could have expected it! Suddenly, 'The Only One' hit and the crowd went insane for Mr. BIG, a man who the crowd loved to boo! BIG was a man possessed and tore apart Real Deal, only for Carl to get the referee to call for the bell when Mr. BIG was in a Real McCoy and hadn't even tapped! Suddenly, TWF Chairman Mr. Edwards made his very first appearance and reversed the decision to the delight of the crowd. FX had changed at that very moment. No-longer were they being hated by the masses, rather, the masses embraced them. Around September 2000, a faction called The BoyZ appeared on the TWF circuit, claiming they could break down the TWF from within. The BoyZ contained High Voltage, Frekishi, Hawke and 'The Man' Gareth Cole, although originally featured Karl Davies as well, but he left the group shortly after they joined the TWF. FX took the fight to the new faction, and in an amazing turn of events, MikeA joined the faction in their battles against The BoyZ, which continued until early 2001. After MikeA formed into Dead Cool however, and BCW/BPA made their first appearances, the Z-Pack returned and FX after this paled in significance, as the Z-Pack took over once more. The FX name lasted as a tag team in several differing combinations right up until TWF WrestleMania II, after which, FX was officially disbanded. FX laid dormant for almost seven years until March 2007. Marz was in the middle of an intense feud with old sparring partners, Team EV. On March 14, 2007 at the TJS Centre in Brackla, Marz dropped a bombshell. He would be reuniting with Mr. BIG to face Team EV in a match that was seven years late. Team EV missed the opening moments of the TWF's very first PPV, hence the planned Mr. BIG & Red Dragon vs. Team EV match was cancelled. No thought was given to FX reuniting, as fans were mainly just happy to see two former friends who were enemies for so long reunite. But, after Team EV made their entrance at No Way BacK, the arena lights went down, and the anticipation rose. Suddenly, fans felt a funny feeling. And then, it happened. "FX Rules the World" hit, and the crowd leapt out of their seats and strangers were hugging and high-fiving each other. Mr. BIG and Marz stepped out in their old FX gear to the loudest roar in TWF history, which prompted even Bryan Daniels to say "Damn, this is UNBELIEVABLE!". FX's reunion was a successful one, after Mr. BIG and Marz executed a Double-D on both their opponents for the victory. It was made clear however that this was a one night only deal and pleasant surprise for the fans however, and the duo's entrance remains one of the most popular clips on the TWF's long established YouTube channel. Despite the short-term reunion, fans are at least glad one reunion took place. What did FX leave us? An un-deniable legacy on the TWF's early history. In the ring they were magnificent to watch, commanding a great presence over the ring. Backstage, they oozed charisma, and the then young guns quickly matured into some of professional wrestling's biggest stars in the past few years. FX lives on in the minds of their many fans, who to them, Still… Rule… The… World. |
