Mr. BIG is well known for being a fan of hard rock and heavy metal music. His love for the genres have extended to the t-shirt he wears on his way down the ring to matches on many occasions, and has been lucky enough to meet and work with some of his heroes. After The Jocks accused Mr. BIG of being a "fake" and not actually liking the music he cares about so much, Biggie announced he was forming an army to show the Jocks that culture can unite many people. This army was not very big originally, but after memorably informing Frekishi and Marz at TWF One Night Only of his plans, the two agreed to join the "Metal Militia". The stable took it's name from the classic Metallica track from their first album.
When the TWF returned in 2007, the Militia formed a vital part of Mr. BIG's attack on The Jocks, who they deem to be the natural enemy of the metal fan. Biggie cut a now famous promo on the FURY prior to No Way BacK in March 2007 talking about the history of metal and how it's been "in your face for so long yet constantly ignored by the masses", likening it to the TWF. The Jocks were quick to counter, and despite using a Megadeth song as their theme, they were ignorant to the band and it's history, referring to "Crush'em" as "that song from the Goldberg movie". At No Way BacK, Biggie and Marz rolled back the years, teaming for the first time since July 2002 to face Team EV, and crushed the duo in a classic brawl. By which point, the faction included not only Frekishi and Marz, but the debuting Dougie Christian and the returning legend of Jon Bennetta.
In April 2007, in what has quickly become a memorable moment of TWF history, Gavin Henson appeared on TWF TV. Henson, the Wales rugby union international, was a former Jock himself in his school days, and appeared to annoy Biggie about the fame he has received and that Biggie could get it too if he were to stop listening to the music he loves and started to look after himself a little bit more. The two had already had a personal feud from when Henson turned up to Biggie's elder sister's wedding in September 2006, and Henson's involvement with The Jocks only fired Biggie up more. In a classic meeting with Tom Williams (who attacked him backstage a month earlier) at Last Man Standing in May 2007, Biggie countered the presence of Henson at ringside, bringing a distraction of his own. A female companion made her way down to the ring and distracted Henson for a majority of the match, until when Biggie needed her to, she slapped Henson and revealed her alliance to the Militia. The companion was Sophie, Biggie's new manager. Having incensed the Jocks further, Biggie and Sophie managed to drive the Jocks insane.
The Jocks did figure eventually that Biggie was not the man to target. The Jocks continued to mock Marz, and the man's great legacy. Marz surprised the world by having former TWF star The Sandman to make an appearance at Summer Break to team up with him, and Team EV were defeated. As the Jocks disappeared, the Militia was triumphant. However, as the Jocks disappeared, so did members of the Militia. By early 2008, through various decisions, only Dougie Christian remained of the stable, and it was officially disbanded after Mr. BIG left the company.
The Militia lay dormant for two years until Mr. BIG returned to partner Marz at Summer Break X. Instead of reviving another of their famous factions, the duo chose to give the Metal Militia it's second trip around, complete with the duo debuting a new theme song, t-shirt and finishing move combo, the devastating Endgame move is said to mean just that for their opponents. The duo took impressive TWF starlet Tobias Granville under their wings and promised to help the young superstar in his battles with his hated rivals Mike Haggar and his former tag team partner Hulmes. It was Granville's history with the i-Gangsta that lead to the Militia feuding with the Foals. BIG and Marz's egos however came to the front of the group's problems in late-2009, with the two men playing confusing mind-games about their superiority, especially in their bitter feud with their rivals, Aaron Hill and Hulmes in the Foals. The Foals compounded the team's problems when they introduced former member Frekishi to their squad and their position was solidified by Marz walking out on Mr. BIG after a dramatic loss in a match at Halloween Hell. However, the Militia had the last laugh at Dangerously Serious, revealing the tag team's supposed dissension was to distract the Foals from the team itself, who embarrassed Hill & Hulmes with a great victory. The feud was seemingly settled with the Militia's decisive victory in the second Devil's Den match at PayBack, despite Marz's heinous injury delivered at the hands of Hill, who was quickly avenged.
Mastermind became an official member of the faction around the time of the Devil's Den match and would frequently wear Militia merchandise, much like The Assassin, who became an "associate" to the faction. In February 2010, Disturbed & Zero re-appeared in the faction's cross-hairs, demanding their re-match for the Tag Team Championships. Disturbed and Zero scored upset victories over the Militia champions on the same night before BIG issued a surprise challenge to Zero for his TV Championship on the first-ever 3-hour Grit BasH. The two had one of the greatest matches in TWF history which ultimately saw BIG upend his student and hold two belts at the same time for the first time in his TWF career. Although BIG would lose the championship back to Zero in a great re-match in March, in-between there was a 2-out-of-3 falls classic held in Chicago at Deadly MindGames that is already being called the greatest tag team match of all-time, which the Militia team ended up victorious in.
Despite Biggie losing the Television Title back to Zero, the Militia's gold streak continued - Marz avenged his critics and rivals by defeating Nytro to become TWF World Champion, even if weeks later the Tag Team Championship reign finally ended at the hands of Technically Superior. Mastermind then found himself involved in the Intercontinental Championship picture and defeated the dominating Riptide to capture the belt. After returning to the TWF at No Way BacK, JT Money became a member of the Militia after his battles with the Entourage and needed the back-up of the Militia. Money and Biggie began a prominent war against Sarah Thomas, who was assembling a collective of superstars to take over the TWF in a manner she claimed had not been seen. The Militia held a significant amount of gold during this time, holding in quick succession the Television, Intercontinental, Tag Team and World Championships and becoming one of the greatest TWF factions of all-time. Marz's departure in June 2010 due to his retirement did not initially indicate the Militia was on the wane, but as time passed, the Militia - whilst being very united and each member helping out in their allies conflicts - became a lesser interest to those outside Mr. BIG, who still proudly referred to the faction. At Summer Break XI, Mr. BIG announced to all the Militia members that after this night, the faction would end, but he would remain to have their back should they call for it.
In the end, it can be said that the Metal Militia can stand on the list of the elite factions in TWF history. United for a common cause, they entertained and caused devastation and won plenty of championships in their tenure.
