Shanahan was one of four Wings on target

Brendan Shanahan scored twice to help Detroit stretch their unbeaten streak to nine games with a 5-1 win over St Louis.

The Red Wing have the best record in the NHL at 22-8-7-1 and 52 points, five more than second place St Louis in the Central Division.

Curtis Joseph made 29 saves in goal for Detroit, who are 6-0-3 in their past nine games and 14-3-3-1 at home.

Sean Avery, Darren McCarty and Kirk Maltby scored the other Wings' goals, while Sergei Fedorov had three assists and Jason Woolley had a pair of assists.

Keith Tkachuk scored the only goal for the Blues.

In Minneapolis, Dwayne Roloson made 20 saves as Minnesota beat slumping Anaheim 4-1.

The Wild won their 20th game of the season and second straight thanks to three players who all scored their first goal of the season - Jeremy Stevenson, Matt Johnson and Nick Schultz.

Antti Laaksonen scored the other Minnesota goal while Andy McDonald scored the lone goal for the Mighty Ducks, who have now lost four straight games.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, Tony Amonte marked his 900th NHL game with an overtime goal to give Phoenix a 2-1 victory over Washington.

Amonte beat goaltender Olaf Kolzig with a fierce shot from the left circle to give the Coyotes their third straight victory and end the Capitals' five-game home winning streak.

Washington controlled play for much of the game, finishing with a 32-14 advantage in shots.

But Phoenix goalie Sean Burke made a number of tough stops to keep the Coyotes in the game.

Sergei Gonchar gave the Caps a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the second period but Washington failed to make their domination count.

Ladislav Nagy tied it at 7:11 of the third period, before Amonte sealed victory with 3:40 left in overtime.

Peter Forsberg had a goal and five assists, and Milan Hejduk added two goals and three assists as Colorado won 7-3 in Nashville.

Steven Reinprecht, Mike Keane, Adam Foote and Rob Blake also scored for the Avalanche.

In New Jersey, Branislav Mezei scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period, and Roberto Luongo made 26 saves to lead Florida to a 2-1 victory over the Devils.

Marcus Nilson also scored for the Panthers, while Sergei Brylin grabbed the New Jersey goal.
