Here's your official NHL Ice Hockey topic...keep most of the discussion in here guys.

I'm still a little pissed for the way my Red Wings have been performing lately. We have lost both our last 2 games to Boston and the only thing positive to come out of it is that CuJo has been playing well and the underrated Kris Draper is whooping some ass. What sucks is that Datsyuk ("Yoda") got given a boarding penalty and a game misconduct, and will probably miss a game.
The Red Wings are also going to set off on a West-Coast road trip next week, playing 5 road games on the roll... vs.
San Jose (19/1)
Anaheim (21/1)
LA Kings (22/1)
Phoenix (24/1)
Dallas (26/1)

Out of all those games, I can see us winning them all. San Jose are riding a crest of a wave, but we have yet to lose to them this year. The Ducks just suck this year and proves that they just were a Cinderella team last year.
The Kings just Ziggy Palfy for the reason of the season, and are still thowarted by injuries.
Phoenix have been superb lately with Brian Boucher in goal. He has set a record 5-game shutout...breaking a 60 year old record.
Dallas have just sucked this season too.

However, I am at least happy with this...
(Thanks to Deckard at letsgowings.com for his fantastic Week in Review and this section of it...)

If playoffs started today...
(in parenthesis change from last week)

Eastern Conference
1) Toronto (0)
2) Philadelphia (0)
3) Tampa Bay (new)
4) Ottawa (+1)
5) New Jersey (-1)
6) Boston (0)
7) Montreal (0)
8) NY Islanders (0)

Western Conference
1) Detroit (0)
2) Vancouver (0)
3) San Jose (+4)
4) Colorado (+2)
5) Calgary (0)
6) St. Louis (-2)
7) Nashville (new)
8) Phoenix (new)

Put it this way...Carolina could get to the play-offs once more, because they are in the shittiest division in pro-sports. Nashville and Phoenix are owning teams like Dallas and Edmonton...CALGARY ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS?! And HV...look who'd be facing the 8th seed...uh...not your Sharks vB Grin

I think San Jose will just get lucky. Look who they will have to face in the QFs... St. Louis...and that's no easy task. The Blues are one hell of team...although I want their drought to continue.
The Red Wings will face Phoenix...how easy can you get?!

San Jose were supposed to be good a year ago and they dropped like a bomb, and they traded their best player (Owen Nolan) for a bunch of puney draft picks.
Another thing worth pointing out is that the Sharks have hardly faced any west coast teams. The Red Wings will be setting off on a 5-game west coast Road Trip this week, as I said, and the Sharks fixtures are as follows for the rest of January...
vs. Dallas (13/1)
vs. Vancouver (15/1)
at Colorado (17/1)
vs. Detroit (19/1)
at Phoenix (21/1)
vs. Phoenix (22/1)
vs. Minnesota (24/1)
vs. Calgary (28/1)
at Dallas (30/1)
at Nashville (31/1)

The Sharks have quite an interesting fixtures left...Detroit and Colorado, the best teams in the West in the last few years one after another? Boy, am I glad my Wings will get out of their slump. Our next game is against the Blackhawks, and they haven't won a road game in 14 attempts!

My playoff predictions will go as follows:
[1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5]
West -
(1) Detroit Red Wings
(2) San Jose Sharks
(3) Vancouver Canucks
(4) St. Louis Blues
(5) Colorado Avalanche
(6) Nashville Preditors
(7) Calgary Flames
(8) Dallas Stars

Detroit Red Wings vs. Vancouver Canucks in Western Conference final.
Red Wings in 7 games. (Datsyuk game winner in OT of game 7)

East -
(1) New Jersey Devils
(2) Toronto Maple Leafs
(3) Tampa Bay Lightning
(4) Philladelphia Flyers
(5) Ottawa Senators
(6) Boston Bruins
(7) Montreal Canadiens
(8) Carolina Hurricanes

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning Final
Tampa Bay upset in 6 games.

Stanley Cup Final
Tampa Bay win Game 1
Detroit win Game 2
Detroit win Game 3
Tampa Bay win Game 4
Detroit win Game 5
Detroit win Game 6
[Red Wings win series 4-2]

I maintain those predictions.

Jaromir Jagr traded to New York Rangers

Although the inital surprise has gone since he's been rumoured to have been traded to just about any NHL team since Washington signed him up in 2001 (including my Red Wings on more than 1 occassion), Jaromir Jagr, the former Pittsburgh Penguin, who has 2 Stanley Cup rings to his name, has been traded to the New York Rangers for Anson Carter.

In my opinion, Washington have managed to dump Jagr's salary, which reportedly was H-U-G-E and still manage to get a player who's reasonably good to play for them. (Carter I think is 80-something overall in NHL 2004).
Jagr, who had 100+ point season in 1995-96, which is pretty much unheard of outside Computer Games, has won an Olympic gold medal (in 1998 @ Nagano) with the Czech Republic. I still think he was not the player he once was in the Penguins...just look at the numbers! But on a team with Lindros, Bure, Messier, Konowalchuk and Dunham...well...we will just have to wait and see.

In case anyone was interested, Jagr played his first Rangers game last night. The score?
New York Rangers - 1
Ottawa Senators - 9

No joke! Laughing :laugh2: LOL

Well, tonight my Wings play Dallas. My prediction is a 3-2 decision in the Red Wings favour. I sure as fuck hope we win this game, because I'll be pissed if we do...The Avs (the team I hate the most) top the West and if the playoffs started today, we'd face Calgary...I'd rather face Dallas!
In our 5 game roadie, 4 games played...we are 1-1-2...which is bloody dreadful!
GO RED WINGS!
