The Wrestling World Mourns Again

Unfortunately, due to complications following surgery to correct his broken leg attained at TNA's LockDown PPV at the weekend, Chris Candido has passed on. I am true shock. A NoDQ.com forum user has posted this poem, which I believe is a lasting tribute to someone who is now on the greatest wrestling card of them all, in heaven's ring.

CHRIS CANDIDO R.I.P.
29 Apr 2005
Farewell, young brother
Scarred warrior
One of the last
Survivors
--Gone to golden fields
& endless sun
w/ a nod &
fond goodbye

You were consumed
fire-swallowed whole
Awakening in shadows
When the darkness stole

Come back to us
Apart from celluloid
& flickering screen memories
Renewed soul taken away
Observations
Need for borrowed time
Not now
Not today

Glowing w/ newfound fire
only to be buried in flame
A living memory
Before you knew it
Only in name
There is no shame
You went like a whirlwind
from earthly chains

All we have
--our stories--
reside in brief encounters
& short bits of remembrance
Historical significance
& television days
It's still not enough
It's still not right
We ask the spinners of fate
Did it truly have to be this way?

You were a fighter
Heavyweight golden idol
Self-made creation
Now so fallen
so cold
--Unrealized & unrealistic
Once vital & bold

Carried away
into an otherworld
into a sky-ring
A business of drama
Idols not real
Yet behind them
Humans
So tragic
Now at peace
as are you
Doesn't stop the world
But ours for one second
Flickers out
Candle snuffed
Good luck to you
who wrestled demons
Now you are victorious
Last words
Last words
Out

Rest in Peace
in the flower'd garden
in the golden castles
on the dream HWY
Meet us when we get there
to tell stories
of a never forgotten day.

R.I.P. Chris and thanks for all the wonderful memories.
